Branching Out, UTS Alumni Mentoring Program
Branching Out is a mentoring program that brings together senior UTS students with a diverse selection of young, established alumni in one-on-one mentoring partnerships.
The program supports students’ development as engaged, socially responsible leaders in their fields of interest by facilitating the exploration of career/university goals, personal passions and pursuits.
For alumni, Branching Out strengthens their connection to the school community, by encouraging them to share their knowledge and experience with a new generation of UTS students.
Who’s involved?
Mentees are S5 or S6 (Grade 11 or 12) students. Mentors are UTS alumni in any field or profession, typically having graduated between ten and twenty years ago.
The Program Coordinators match participants based on detailed profiles that both mentors and mentees complete.
What’s Involved?
The formal mentoring partnership lasts for the majority of a regular school year (between six and eight month).
Each mentoring pair communicates for a minimum of two to four hours each month. Communication can happen via email, telephone, or ideally in person.
Throughout the year, mentoring pairs are expected to attend several planned events, including an orientation session and a closing celebration, as well as to arrange visits to the alumni’s place of work, university campuses or events or activities that are relevant to the partnership.
Partnership activities are monitored periodically throughout the term of the program.
