UTS Board

For nearly 100 years, the affiliation of UTS with the University of Toronto formed a special foundation upon which we have built a school, unique in Canada, for academically talented students. Today, UTS is recognized internationally for graduating some of the finest minds in education, commerce, government and the arts, many of whom have occupied leadership positions at the University of Toronto.

On June 30, 2006, a new 15 year Affiliation Agreement between UTS and the University of Toronto on the terms approved by the UTS Board on February 28 2006 was signed, and on July 4, 2006 the Board of Directors formally ratified the Agreement.

The 15 year Agreement opens a new chapter in the history of UTS with both exciting possibilities and the challenge of best realizing the opportunities that are offered through our special partnership with the University of Toronto. The Agreement provides UTS with a deficit-free, clean financial start and the transfer of approximately $30 Million of financial assets to the newly established UTS Foundation which will manage these endowment funds solely for the benefit of UTS.

In the next 15 years, UTS has the opportunity to establish a meaningful academic partnership with its neighbour, OISE/UT and other units in the University of Toronto. The Agreement formalizes the way UTS will manage its relationship with the University through UTS participation on the Facilities, Planning and the Joint Academic Affiliations Committees.

With the new Affiliation Agreement firmly in place, we are confident that UTS is poised to enter a new and exciting phase in its history. Not only will UTS continue to thrive and set new standards in education, in Canada and beyond, but also the new agreement will allow UTS to effectively address many issues that have been deferred in the past 13 years and have increasingly strained our ability to remain financially accessible to many eligible students.

In anticipation of these opportunities and challenges, UTS has begun the process of building an Advancement Unit specifically dedicated to the school's long term funding needs. The UTS Foundation and Advancement Office will be working closely to raise and manage our funds to ensure that school is sufficiently endowed to support its bursary needs. In addition, this unit will be responsible for developing and mounting our capital campaign in support of the joint redevelopment plans for 371 Bloor Street West.

As we embark on this next phase of our history, we are very fortunate to have someone of Michaele Robertson's talent and passion to lead UTS. We now have the leadership and the tools to embrace the world and to form meaningful partnerships that not only expand our horizons, but also benefit the greater community and we look forward to working with the UTS community to meet these objectives.

At any point, we welcome feedback from the community and look forward to input on issues that affect the operation and the future of the School.
