
UTSNet Instructions
UTSNet is an e-mail and conferencing system run by OISE/UT
and UTS, to which all UTS students have access.
UTSNet is available free to all UTS staff and students, and
is used extensively to support UTS's curricular and
extra-curricular activities.

UTSNet Software and Installation

NOTE: These installation instructions are
for Windows only. For Mac Instructions and Software,

Download the FirstClass (UTSNet)
software.
A File Download Window will open. Select 'Save this program
to disk' and press OK. Then Select where you would like to
save the file and press Save.
- Double-click on the downloaded Installer file
(FC10000ENCA.exe) located on the Desktop or where ever you
saved the file on your hard drive. Allow it to decompress
and carry on to step 3.
- After the splash screen depicting the FirstClass logo,
an InstallShield Wizard will appear, select the Next button
to continue with the installation. At the subsequent window,
agree to the license by pressing the Yes button.
- Type in a User Name and Company (just use UTS), and then
select whether you want to install firstclass for all users
or just for yourself. Press Next.
- Choose Destination Location – By default the install
program will select C:\Program Files\FirstClass. Press Next.
If a message appears that the folder does not exist and
should setup create it for you, Press Yes.
- Select installation options – Leave the checkbox checked
if you want a shortcut in the startmenu. Press Next.
- Start Copying Files – Press Next. When the files are
finished copying press Finish.
- FirstClass will then start and present you with a login
window. Close this window AND exit the FirstClass program by
RIGHT-CLICKING the FirstClass logo in the system tray(it is
the round symbol that looks like people sitting around a
table in the lower right-hand corner of the screen) and
selecting exit.
- Then start FirstClass by double-clicking the FirstClass
icon on your desktop.
- If you see an error message about server setup
information, press OK. This error will be taken care of in
the next step.
- A Service Setup window should open. If it does not,
press the Setup button on the login window. In the Service
Setup window make sure of the following:
Connect via = Local Network.FCP
UserID = blank
Password = blank
Login as guest = not checked
Login automatically = not checked
Retry login = 10 times
Retry delay = 2 secs
Server = utsnet.utschools.ca

Network = blank
Phone # = blank
Encryption = Default
Server ID = blank
FirstClass secure authentication only = unchecked
Notify me of new mail when offline = unchecked
Notifier password = blank
Then press Save. The service setup window will then close.
