The First Ren Descartes Medal was first awarded in 1968. As recipient of this prestigious award, Mrs. Lang not only joins a long list of notable contributors to mathematical education in Ontario, but also a number of medalists who are former UTS faculty and members of the UTS community, including, Prof. Edward Barbeau (2003), Bill Bissett (1981), Jean Collins(1997), Al Fleming (1985), Rad de Peiza (1990), and Dr. Larry Rice (1995).

"[Diane] is widely recognized as a dedicated mathematics teacher and an excellent department head," writes the Ren Descartes Society. "She was also awarded the Edyth May Sliffe Award by the Mathematical Association of America in recognition of distinguished junior high school mathematics teaching."
