POSITION OVERVIEW

UTS seeks a qualified and experienced Mandarin teacher for high-achieving grade 8 to 12 students. The ideal candidate will be OCT certified and be able to teach all levels from beginner to advanced (including AP Chinese Language and Literature). As this is a new language program, we are looking for an organized self-starter willing to develop and grow a program of language and literature study, who is excited about working with students new to Chinese language and culture as well as able to engage and deepen the learning experience for students from Chinese communities in Canada.

For the 2019-2020 year, UTS will be offering two (2) high school courses.  Classes will be held in the afternoons (daily 4-6 pm) or on Saturdays (once a week for 6 hours) at UTS (to be decided).

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing an enriched curriculum for LKB BDE and LKB CUE courses;
  • Teaching using current best practices in language acquisition and usage;
  • Using differentiated instruction and assessment strategies to support student learning;
  • Assessing and evaluating students through a diverse range of assessment tasks;
  • Providing support to students who may struggle as well as students who want to extend learning.

 

Candidates must:

  • Be able to demonstrate high levels of fluency and mastery of Mandarin as well as language pedagogy;
  • Have a demonstrated ability to develop and implement Ontario’s International Languages curriculum in Mandarin;
  • Be in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers.

 

The successful candidate will have completed Qualifications and/or graduate studies in Mandarin and will have at least 2 years of teaching experience. The candidate must be in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers.  Applicants with the requisite qualifications, as well as demonstrated experience in teaching Mandarin at all levels, will be given priority consideration.

  

Term of Contract:     September, 2019 to June 2020

Compensation:  $10,500 per course.
