Welcome to UTS @ 30 Humbert!

With the start of the new school year at a new location, we want to extend our very warmest welcome to our new and returning families.

As a parent at UTS, you are automatically a member of the UTSPA. The UTSPA Executive and Grade Reps, with the help of parents like you, present many great events throughout the school year. You can find some of those events info in the UTSPA Events and Meeting Dates section on this page. Detailed info of the UTSPA events will also be included in the weekly Parent Updates newsletter delivered to your mailbox on Thursdays. We urge you to join us as often as you can for the informative General Meeting events and various social and educational events that are planned with you and your children in mind throughout the year.

The first UTSPA event of the year, the Hello Humbert! party, took place on August 30 when more than 1000 members of the UTS community came to celebrate the beginning of the school year and the new “adventure” at our temporary location. It was hosted by our Parent Volunteer Group (PVG), a sub-group from our parent body who wish to be called upon whenever and wherever there is the need for parent volunteers. It’s an exciting and dynamic group, full of energies and great ideas. For those of you who have an interest in becoming more involved and but may not have time to sit on the Executive, we encourage you to sign up and join the PVG (sign up link here). It is a great way to meet other parents who are looking to become engaged in the UTS community and the lives of our children.

We are also welcoming our first year’s parent buddies members. This pilot project includes 50 volunteers and 70 families who are new to UTS. Many of those buddies have already connected with each other via email or phone. Some have already met at Hello Humbert! For those of you who missed the signup deadline but wish to participate, please be on the lookout for the recruiting info in the next few months.

We are very excited to continue to develop and expand upon our UTSPA early internship initiative this year. This past summer, 21 hosts accommodated 115 UTS students in various summer positions. Please let us know if you would like to become a host next summer, or if you know someone who can host summer interns for UTS students. We will connect you with the Coordinator of the program.

This year, we will continue to work with the school and its Wellness team to ensure students are leading happy, healthy, stress-reduced lives.  We are committed to implementing projects for transitioning to our temporary home in order to help make it an exciting adventure for the students and the UTS community at large.

We hope you will join us whenever you can and invite you to ask us at any time about being a part of the UTSPA.

Sincerely,

Flora Chen and Will Burnfield (UTSPA Co-Presidents)
