With the school’s vision and mission as a beacon, the Board works in partnership with Principal Leanne Foster and the the UTS Senior Leadership Team to ensure the school’s continued success and financial stability.
UTS is a non-profit independent school affiliated with the University of Toronto.
The school’s Board of Directors includes alumni, current parents and parents of alumni as well as an independent director.
They are academics, business leaders, legal experts, financial professionals and specialists from other fields, who all share a deep affection for the school and bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their work as board members.

UTS Board Chair Peter Buzzi ’77 is profoundly dedicated to the principles of access in Admissions, and brings more than 37 years of financial expertise to the table from RBC Capital Markets, where he retired from his role as vice chair and co-head of the Global Mergers and Acquisitions Group at RBC Capital Markets. He became the UTS board chair in December 2022. A graduate in systems design engineering from the University of Waterloo, he also holds a master of business administration from Harvard Business School. He remains close-knit with the Class of 1977, many of whom remain friends since their days at 371 Bloor.
Don Ainslie ’84
Don Ainslie ’84 is a respected Canadian philosopher, educational leader, author, and professor at the University of Toronto. Currently serving on U of T’s Governing Council and previously as principal of U of T’s University College, his broad university experience and knowledge supports UTS in maximizing the potential of our Affiliation Agreement with U of T. A devoted UTS volunteer, he received the 2020 UTS Heartwood Award for his many contributions to our school, which include previously serving as a director on the UTS Alumni Association Board. UTS is a strong tradition for the Ainslie family: Donald attended with his older sister Mary Ainslie K.C. ’83, following in the footsteps of their father, uncle, and cousin who also attended UTS.
Dr. Mansour Alvi P ’22, ’23
Dr. Mansour Alvi P ’22, ’23 became an orthopaedic surgeon to contribute to the health and well-being of people in his community, carrying on a long-standing family tradition of working in the medical field. Leveraging a powerful combination of orthopaedic and engineering expertise, he helps people with musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries at the Cleveland Clinic and MedElite Clinic, as well as teaching locally and internationally. Mansour earned his orthopaedic surgeon qualifications and his PhD in engineering at the University of Toronto, and a medical degree from McMaster University. His research focuses on one of the greatest questions of our time: how can we live longer and healthier. Seeking new paradigms for longstanding conditions such as osteoarthritis, he ultimately hopes to improve the health spans for people on our planet. He also volunteers with various international organizations to provide medical training and emergency health services in Africa.
Marianne Anderson P ’17
Marianne Anderson P ’17 is a retired investment banker who spent 16 years working for Goldman Sachs, RBC Dominion Securities and National Bank Financial in New York, London and Toronto. She earned her MBA from the University of Western Ontario, as well as a master of education from the University of Toronto and a bachelor of science at Queen’s University. Marianne has served on many not-for-profit boards for arts organizations, private clubs and independent schools. She is also the president of the University Women’s Club of Toronto.
Kristina (Tina) Bates ’88, P ’22
An experienced corporate director and senior financial services executive, Kristina (Tina) Bates ’88, P ’22 is the chief financial officer of Rogers & Company. With 25 years of capital markets experience and deep vertical knowledge in the technology and resource sectors, she spent the last decade in wealth management at RBC Dominion Securities and Manulife Securities. Previously Tina served as EVP, head of institutional equity sales at Dundee Capital Markets, and for a decade was partner of institutional equity sales at Paradigm Capital. She holds an MBA from University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, and a Chartered Professional Accountant designation. A dedicated UTS volunteer, Tina is a former director and secretary-treasurer for the UTS Alumni Association.
Gina Buonaguro P ’23, '28
Gina Buonaguro P ’23, '28 revives women’s lost stories through historical fiction. The author or coauthor of seven novels, her most recent won the 2023 Chaucer Historical Fiction Award. Gina earned her master of arts from University of British Columbia on a Fulbright Scholarship, after graduating magna cum laude from Villanova University in the U.S.
Flora Chen P ’21, ’23, ’26
Flora Chen P ’21, ’23, ’26’s drive for excellence and continuous improvement defines her 20-plus year career in investment research. As vice president of sustainability and global research at BofA Securities, she supervises her group’s research products, which rank among the best in the industry. Before her finance career, Flora was a reporter at a Torstar group newspaper and television news producer for ABC and NBC affiliates. She holds an MBA from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, as well as a master of arts in journalism. Flora received the UTS Heartwood Award for her extensive volunteer work, which includes serving as UTS Parents’ Association co-president from 2017 to 2019.
Susan Doniz P ’28
Susan Doniz P ’28 is the chief information and data analytics officer of The Boeing Company and senior vice president of Information Technology & Data Analytics, and serves as a member of Boeing's Executive Council. Susan brings in-depth expertise in the area of information technology infrastructure and data analytics to the Board, as well as strong experience in governance. Throughout her career, Susan has championed a variety of diversity networks for women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as well as for Hispanics in business leadership. Prior to joining the Board, Susan served on the Board’s Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
Tony Lundy ’79
Tony Lundy ’79 is a private investor who cares deeply about education and the future of our planet. He served as a partner of Wexford Capital from 2005 to 2017, and previously was based in New York, where he spent 20 years in the investment banking groups of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette and Deutsche Bank. Early in his career, he was vice president of mergers and acquisitions for Castle & Cooke in Los Angeles. Tony holds a bachelor of science degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and is a CFA charterholder. Forty-five years after graduation, he still maintains close friendships from his UTS days.
Sandy McIntyre ’71
Sandy McIntyre ’71 was executive vice-chairman and director of Sentry Investments. A University of Toronto graduate, he is a two-time winner of a Brendan Wood International Canadian TopGun Investment Mind Award (2009 and 2010), for his grasp of industries and influence in the Canadian market. A respected voice in the wealth management community, Sandy regularly shares his insights through commentaries and speaking engagements. The school’s McIntyre Gymnasium commemorates his support for UTS as a Founder.
Thomas C. MacMillan '67, GP '29
Thomas C. MacMillan '67, GP '29 was a respected member of the financial services industry for over 40 years in both Canada and the U.S., holding senior positions at many companies, including CIBC Mellon, where he served as president and CEO from 1998 to 2009. A longtime supporter of the non-profit sector, he served on the boards of many organizations, including some of Toronto’s most respected musical institutions. Tom was chair of the Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall (and also served as interim CEO), chair of the Toronto Symphony Foundation and vice-chair of Tafelmusik. With a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, he earned his master’s from the London School of Economics and Political Science. UTS runs strong in his family, with Tom’s father, uncle, brothers and cousin, and now his granddaughter, all attending the school. During hockey season, Tom cheers on the UTS Blues as assistant coach of the UTS Varsity Hockey team.
Zahra Mohamed P ’25
Zahra Mohamed P ’25 is a values-driven strategic and innovative leader with over 15 years of demonstrated experience in community development and leadership in the not-for-profit and philanthropic sectors, both locally and internationally. As the chief operating officer for Community Food Centres Canada, she works to improve food security for people and communities across our country. She also volunteers to support values-driven organizations and leaders in strategic alignment and planning, organizational development and governance. Her commitment to community extends to our school, where she served as the UTS Parents’ Association co-president from 2022 to 2024, and became its first co-coordinator of anti-racism, equity, diversity and inclusion. For these efforts and more, Zahra received the UTS Heartwood Award for volunteer excellence in 2023.
Carol Shirtliff-Hinds P '16, '17, '20
Carol Shirtliff-Hinds P '16, '17, '20 provides country-wide public service leadership in her role as executive director and general counsel for Canada Revenue Agency. Her earlier roles included becoming the first visible minority person to hold the position of deputy chief federal prosecutor for the Public Prosecutions Services of Canada in the Toronto Office, and establishing her own firm, Shirtliff Hinds Law, which grew to 20 staff at its peak. As a senior litigator, Carol specialized in the areas of family, criminal and civil law, leading counsel on complex files including jury trial, and taking pride in seeking justice for her clients. She volunteers at the Ontario Justice Education Network, which educates students on the legal system, and as a judge at DECA student business competitions. Previously, she mentored students through the University of Toronto’s Law in Action Within Schools partnership and volunteered with the Black Coalition for AIDS Prevention. One of the original members of Black Female Lawyers Association in Ontario, she also was chair of the Toronto Licensing Tribunal.
Martha Tory
Martha Tory is a retired partner from Ernst & Young, where she led the not-for-profit and health care industry groups. Her extensive experience in the independent school sector includes serving as the auditor for UTS and several other independent schools. Previously, she was chair of the board at St. Clement’s School and also volunteered as a board director for Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS), the Conference of Independent Schools and Crescent School. Deeply committed to giving back to her community, Martha has contributed to many other not-for-profit boards. She currently sits on the boards of YMCA Greater Toronto, the Rekai Centres and Soulpepper Theatre. Neither an alum nor UTS parent, she serves as independent director, but her ties to our school run deep, as three generations of her family have attended the school.
John Wilkinson '78
John Wilkinson '78 serves as vice-chair of the Board and chair of the Governance and Nominating Committee. A partner at Weirfoulds LLP, he practices corporate and commercial law for businesses and not-for-profits, including universities and sports organizations. His enthusiasm for athletics at UTS grew into an enduring interest in the role of amateur sports in society, and he served as volunteer general counsel for Toronto’s most recent bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games and is currently a vice-chair of the Canadian Center for Ethics in Sport. A dedicated UTS volunteer, he has been the president, secretary and a director of the UTS Alumni Association. As a student, he won the Nesbitt Silver Medal, and became the prefect for Althouse, which was named for his grandfather, John G. Althouse, the second headmaster of UTS.
