Eureka! Research Institute at UTS
Advancing education through research, collaboration, and innovation.
The Eureka! Research Institute at UTS is one of Canada’s few school-based research institutes. Our mission is to champion evidence-based teaching, learning, and assessment, while sparking interdisciplinary curiosity and co-designed research between teachers, students, and university partners.
Rooted in our strong academic culture and close ties with the University of Toronto, Eureka! builds bridges between educational research and classroom practice. Our integration with the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) and collaborations with U of T researchers position us as a national and international leader in school-based inquiry.
A Hub for Innovation
UTS educators and students are active participants in research that explores how we learn best. This teacher-led model ensures that research is grounded in real-world classrooms and shared widely to improve education everywhere.
Global Connections
Through partnerships with schools in Shanghai, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, and Japan, the Institute expands its global reach and deepens its understanding of effective teaching practices across diverse contexts.
Founded on Visionary Support
Established through the generosity of Richard Ingram ’61 and Satoko Shibata, the Eureka! Research Institute embodies the belief that teachers are ideally positioned to drive educational research, because they live it every day.
Together, we’re reimagining how students learn and how teachers teach, creating knowledge that benefits classrooms across Canada and beyond.
