Eureka! Institute at UTS

Every day, we learn more about how to learn better. UTS aims to serve as a hub of knowledge creation and mobilization that improves the quality of what we teach, and how we teach it. The Eureka! Institute @ UTS is the nexus for developing and sharing this knowledge, as one of only a few education research institutes based at a secondary school in Canada.

Closing the divide between education research and the real life practice of teaching

Robust University of Toronto Collaborations

The Institute is uniquely positioned to be an education research leader in our country and internationally. The UTS affiliation with the University of Toronto and the school’s permanent home on the St. George campus fosters robust partnerships with one of the world’s leading universities. U of T’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) is just blocks away.

The UTS catalyst for excellence

UTS itself is a catalyst for excellence, with driven teachers and exceptional, diverse students admitted based on merit, and a flourishing research culture among staff and students.

International scope

International partnerships with schools in Shanghai, Copenhagen, Frankfurt and Japan help widen the scope for research projects. All this serves to further the Institute’s research on best practices in education, and foster collaborations with some of the brightest minds in education.

Permanently established with funding from Richard Ingram ’61 and Satoko Shibata, the Eureka! Research Institute @ UTS stems from the belief that teachers themselves are ideally positioned to further education research. They live it every day on the frontlines of education.

Co-designed research means teachers are active participants as leaders or collaborators in research projects. Together in partnership and collaboration, we are learning how students can learn better, and sharing this knowledge for the benefit of educators in our country and around the world.
